 I knew
Boys Like Me
would be a great book —
  I was right.

Boys Like Me       by R.L. Clements
opens with Roy, a 12-year-old boy learning about life and its many challenges, of which hate seems to be at the forefront. He also discovers true love and friendship for the first time in Gary, a boy his age who has just moved to town. Roy struggles to understand the concept of racism and what it means, never being fully satisfied with the answers he receives from those closest to him while at the same time trying to sort out his feelings for Gary, the first boy he's ever loved.

Boys Like Me is serious and funny, with ingredients that create more than a good book. The main character, Roy, is adorable and easy to love. He utterly entranced me, and the way he told his story was hilarious.
Clements has a way of bringing his characters to life.

It has a To Kill a Mockingbird feel and sends a beautiful message.
